A Custom Painting
You can spend months or years looking for a work of art that fits what you want, one you can see yourself in, and still not find it.
Creating the painting that will hold your memory takes time, and communication with the artist is essential.
Have you ever thought about arranging a meeting with the artist?
If you have any questions, send me a message through the contact form or to info@alexandrecoxo.com.
I will be happy to help!
The first step is choosing the subject.
To help you choose and plan your custom painting, I wrote a short guide that explains why each stage matters and offers tips on how to communicate with the artist you want to hire.
The Guide to Your Custom Painting is free. Subscribe and download it with the button alongside.
You can then use a mood board to set out the features the painting should have.
Simple as it is, the mood board is very important for sharing your vision. It can include inspiration images, your own photos or even paintings you like.

My Creative Process
Why the Sketch Matters
The sketch is the first concrete step of a painting, where the idea to be developed takes shape.
The painting is built from the sketch, so it has to capture the subject, the main figures and the composition.
Depending on what you want, this stage may involve a photo shoot, a sketch or a small painting, among other approaches.
What materials do you use?
I use premium-grade oil paints as my main medium.
The supports can be linen canvas, beech wood panels or aluminium panels, usually prepared with acrylic gesso primer.
Every painting is finished with a gloss or matte varnish.
How long does a commission take?
Every case is different: the time depends mainly on how complex the composition is and what it includes. I can only give you a timeframe after looking at your request.
As a reference, a 100cm x 100cm canvas takes about eighty hours to paint and about two months to deliver! This includes the drying time of the paint and varnish, and the packing time.
Are custom paintings certified?
Of course, all my works come with their Certificate of Authenticity.
Custom paintings are even more exclusive, so they come with a personalised certificate too.
How is the painting shipped?
All pieces are sent by CTT registered post, carefully packed in boxes made for each one.
You will receive a tracking number by email and be notified as soon as your painting is shipped. You can find out more by clicking here.
If you would like to know how I developed my packing and shipping method, read the article "Packing Paintings for Shipping by Courier" on the Blog. You can read it by clicking here.
Can I collect my painting?
Yes! Just arrange a time that suits you.
My studio is in Porto and I will be glad to welcome you!

Need help choosing the subject of your commission?
Send me a message with your idea: the space where the painting will hang, the colours you like, a memory or a place you want to keep. I will help you define the subject, the size and the composition.
If you prefer, we can arrange a video call.
